Philips GC9600Positives - I paid £200 which is double the price of the 2 other steam generators I’ve owned, both of them were other brands. The first one I owned blew up spectacularly, the 2nd was noisy, it made a constant pumping sound which was annoying and not powerful enough so I thought I’d push the boat out and order a more expensive one to see if they are worth paying more for. I am not disappointed. It’s easy to use. The iron itself is less bulky than other brands I’ve used which is great because it’s easier to handle. The iron is quite pointed which is good for ironing around buttons etc. 1.8 litre removable tank which reduces the amount of times I need to refill. The iron glides over the clothes like a hovercraft! Really impressive. It has some wizardry technology which means you don’t have to alter the temperature of the iron, nothing burns, you can also leave the iron face down on the ironing board without fear of it burning - I was dubious so I put a white cloth on the board and rested it on that while repositioning clothes on the board, it never burnt the cloth, goodness knows how it works but it does! The iron can be locked into the base unit which is a nice safety feature. Steam boost gives continuous steam which is handy for vertical ironing and also a turbo steam button for stubborn creases, although the steam is powerful that you probably won’t need the turbo. It makes a pumping sound for a minute when it’s first switched on, and every 5 minutes or so during ironing it makes a pumping sound but that only lasts for a couple of seconds. Other than that it’s extremely quiet. The steam button is instant, no waiting for the steam to come out. Also, when you release the steam button the steam stops instantly which is much safer than the other 2 brands I’ve owned.Negatives - the cord storage isn’t brilliant but it’s adequate. The footprint of the iron is quite large and it doesn’t fit on my steam generator ironing board, but bigger steam generator ironing boards are available.I always tend to put my s
S DHad this product for a few days now. It is a good Iron however the abnormal noise it produces is enough to want to return it. I am in the process of speaking to Philips and am waiting for a reply in regards to the abnormal noise it produces. If they say this is normal I will replace the product immediately. No iron should make this noise with this price tag ! Shame as if it did not produce this noise then I would be happy with it and give it full marks. Something is not quite right with this product. Please watch my video until the end.
Amazon CustomerThis is a very good steam generating iron. First impressions were how nice it was in appearance. It is very elegant looking, much moreso than my old Tefal steam generator iron. The removable water tank makes filling it with water so easy (unlike my old Tefal). The iron is ready to use in 2 minutes. A beeping sound let's you know that it's ready to use. The iron works incredibly well with a good even distribution of steam that makes short work of ironing. With the iron being very light weight, it is easy to maneuver. The only negative about performance is that I find water leaks from the iron during the first minute of use. Recently I've tried using the iron on a board with no clothing due a short while to try and avoid getting water on clothing. The length of power lead and steam iron lead is good. There are handy storage compartments for both too, which again my Tefal did not have. Overall I'm very pleased with the iron and would recommend.
DavidI never thought I’d pay this much for an iron but I’m so glad that I did-I have to iron a lot of fabric for quilting apart from normal laundry. This iron is absolutely faultless. It irons every kind of fabric superbly. I notice that normal cotton sheets are so smooth that they seem almost polished-and I thought my previous iron had done a pretty good job anyway. It delivers really powerful steam consistently throughout, and the fact that the iron itself is so light means that anyone with mobility issues might find it less tiring. This really is a first rate product.
Miss DaisyExcellent iron. Easy and light to use.
JulesHandy permanent steam trigger lightweight iron quite expensive but worth the money
SuperplumberDoes exactly what it says, well worth the money. Excellent iron highly recommend
natalieHas the power of the older heavier machines but without the weight
GlobTwo months ago I replaced my very expensive Philips steam iron with this VERY, VERY expensive one. I also, at the direction of Philips customer service their water filter as the lack of filtering water before adding it to the iron, I was told, is what made my old one blow up. Now, two months in and while I am satisfied with the iron itself, I have attempted to purchase replacement cartridges for the water filter and there are NONE. ANYWHERE. Not on Amazon, not even on the Philips website. They are unavailable EVERYWHERE with no indication of the issue. I can wastefully purchase a brand-new filter - both Philips and Amazon are happy to keep selling those - thereby contributing to more plastic waste but I cannot purchase a replacement filter. The one I was told that not using would destroy my iron...
Jennifer HarrellThis iron is fast and efficient, leaves clothes looking like they’ve been ironed by a professional.
LizWas keen n looking forwards but was very disappointed from the usage. Cotton cloths trousers can’t be creased out after dryer Usuage no many option on the steam just two levels. And nothing changes for different cloths
AsEvery person that irons should have this it’s brilliant cuts ironing by half, expensive but well worth the money, I love it.
MoGreat iron easy to use, good steam, very light to handle. What is really impressive is you can leave the iron face down on the ironing board or indeed on clothes and it will not burn. I would certainly recommend.
DGVery light snd well built .
GFGood price for this product

AlandiThis looks good and actually lives up to the other 5* reviews. Never worry about heat settings it does it all for you! Honestly worth the extra and I’m so glad I didn’t choose the cheaper option!
SaraLove itUsed to have morphy Richards but this is much as easier to use as it alters the temperature itself So there's s no fear of burning clothesHeats up in 2 minutes and doesn't leak from the plate too oftenSo easy to de scaleBig tank let's you do a couple of loads of washing easily
Amazon CustomerGreat iron for when you have a lot of ironing to do.Takes two mins to warm up but once there ironing is quick and easy.Cotton sheets that can be a real pain when left dry and scrunched up done in no time.Has a 'turbo' boost for those few nasty jobs. Also eco mode great on synthetic/mixed fabrics.Base unit is heavy to carry but once in place the iron itself is light enough to use without being so light you have to push down to remove the creases.Overall excellent. Our last Phillips iron worked for +8 years and needed one small hose replaced.Cost me all of £5 in parts and 1hr of cursing taking it apart and screwing it back together.
P. OliverWe are a family of 10 and so a good Iron is a must. Always liked Philips but recently had Tefal Steam Gen irons as gifts which I have to be heavy to use and bulky and sole plate becomes non slide easily This Phillips iron is expensive but worth it. still large but smaller than Tefal counter part and over all lighter but the iron itself is practically weigtless and the quality of ironing is brilliant

PerfectCare Elite Silence is the best steam generator iron from Philips with Silent steam technology, quiet yet ultra powerful. Iron from jeans to silk without temperature setting. Guaranteed no burns on all ironable garments. Troubleshooting tips: Various types of noises (such as pumping, rattling, ticking) are produced during ironing with Philips steam generator. Learn more here. Water is being sent from the water tank to the steam generator This noise usually comes from the base of your iron and should happen at regular intervals or every time the steam button is pressed. This is perfectly normal and to be expected with any steam generator iron. It may be possible to reduce the noise by not placing the iron on a hard surface. You may also put a piece of soft material (such as a cloth) under the base. A whooshing sound can be heard when steam comes out of the soleplate High-pressure steam is causing this noise. This is normal for steam generator with high pressure steam. You can reduce the steam by selecting the ECO setting (if available). The steam iron makes a loud pumping noise The water tank is empty. When the water tank is empty, the pump gets dry and this can cause noise coming from your steam iron. Please check the water level in your iron. If the water tank is empty, fill it with water. Then press and hold the steam trigger until steam comes out of the soleplate. If your iron is equipped with a water level magnet: Please check if it got stuck in the water container. If it did, you can release it by carefully shaking the water tank or by tapping the side of the container with your fingers. The iron makes a ticking or rattling noise Your iron needs to be descaled or the descaling mode is activated.
Note: When your Philips steam iron is leaking brown water or causes brown/white stains on your garment, it is time to descale it.
